August 29, 2008

I can't believe August is almost over. This year in general has really flown by - so much going on and so much to look forward to!

I started the 7-day diet today and so far it sucks. That soup is so boring and I am having a REALLY hard time with willpower. I have the greatest intentions and goals but my willpower totally sucks. I keep eyeing the banana bread here at work and I want a piece so badly, but...NO. Today I can only eat the soup and any fruit other than bananas. I can drink any unsweetened juice, skim milk, or cranberry juice, but there isn't any of that here so I've had about 3 bottles of water. So far today I've had some grapes and 3 bowls of the soup, along with my water, and so far all I feel is the repeating bathroom urge from all the liquid. This had better work or I'm going to make my OWN banana bread next week and say screw it all. =)

Today has been a pretty decent day....I'm looking forward to the long weekend and relaxing. My goal for tomorrow is to finish the picture frames for the reception tables.

35 days!!

August 28, 2008

(Happy birthday Jess!!)

Back to work today. Cant say I'm super excited about that; I really enjoyed having a weekday off to get much-needed things done. I like this job for the most part, but it does take up my entire day. I have no time to get things done unless I do it in the mornings around the baby's naptime, and even then my outings are limited. I need to go down to the church with my brother one day, but I dont have time to drive down there and back before I have to pick up the other one, so....I feel very limited and trapped most days. I'm definitely going to need that week off in September to get most of it finished.

So I was all ready to start this diet today. I made a ginormous pot of the soup last night, even tried some for dinner so I'd know what I was getting into (kinda tasty!) Then I put it into containers and left them at Jay's house. Oops. So I will be starting tomorrow - I promise. I'm kinda looking forward to it to see how well it works, or if it will work at all.

I went to David's Bridal yesterday for my 2nd (and apparantly, final) fitting. I was really nervous as I was putting it on.....what if it doesnt fit, even after all my hard work with Weight Watchers and the stupid gym.....? Mom went to zip it up, I held my breath (not sucking in, just holding it from being nervous).....and up it went. The whole way, no problem. It looked great and I was so excited! It fits perfectly - and after this diet, hopefully will even give me a little breathing room. I'm glad, yet sad, that I only have to wear it for a few hours.

We had our last meeting with my uncle, who is performing our wedding. We got the ceremony outlined the way we want it, and all the chapters finished in our book (glad that's over with). It was a good book but we didn't get to meet regularly, due to my job never giving me much free time, so we were often reading 3-4 chapters at once and by the time we all met up, we had forgotten what we read.

We applied for our marriage license yesterday and it will be mailed to us today. Exciting!! Then we went to the bank and had Jay's name added onto my checking account, b/c my bank is the one we're going to be using. It's where our joint saving account is, so it just made sense to keep everything there. The guy was a total weirdo and so nosy - wanted to know everything about everything - how long we'd been together, where we were getting married, where we were going on our honeymoon and for how long, what there was to do there, blah blah blah. I know he was probably just making conversation but after awhile we were both like "does this have anything to do with the checking account? then quit asking so many questions." Don't ask so many question of two very private people - if we wanted you to know all about us, we would offer information. He even said Jay's social security number sounded like a Florida social (????) but.......Jay was born in Indiana so that had NOTHING to do with the price of rice in China and I think he was just being nosy by that point. Anyway, we got that done and got the heck outta there.

Then we went to Verizon where the drama unfolded. My new-every-two ends next Tuesday....5 days from yesterday, okay? Now, I have had serious issues with the last two phones I've gotten from Verizon. I had a Motorola a couple years ago and went through 3 batteries with the stupid thing - even though I charged it only when I was supposed to, and always gave it a full charge, never used the car charger, etc. So I went back to my old LG phone b/c I was tired of buying batteries for the Motorola. Same thing now - in less than one year's time, I'm on my second battery with this one and I'm tired of it. Every time I talk to them about it, I get the same spiel. So I explained this to the saleslady and said, since mine was up in just a few days and I have a 20 second charge on this phone, it's very inconvenient - can I get my phone a few days early? Nope. You have to wait until the VERY day your contract is up. The very day. Even though they're last phones have been such a pain.....no mercy for you - you have to wait. I guess I understand that, but it's still very frustrating. I hate Verizon most of the time. The service is pretty good, but the phones SUCK unless you buy one of the $200-300 ones and I can't afford to do that. I don't make tons of money and if I did, I wouldn't blow it on that anyway. So....4 more days and I can get a new phone. I don't know yet what I'm going to get but I dont plan on spending more than $30 after my discount and rebate, which leaves me at picking out a phone not worth more than $150. Any suggestions??

37 days left as of today. We were talking about it last night, about how we started at like 140-something days and to him, it's really flown by, but not to me. It has come a long way from 140-ish, but there's still over a month to go and I really don't have a lot left to do to fill my time, and the things I do have, I can't work on until the weekends. I have to finish putting the pictures in the frames for the reception tables, but there are only about 20 frames left to do. I have to finish tying ribbon to the weights to hold the balloons on the tables. I have to get in touch with the janitor at the church (like pulling your own teeth barehanded). I've left three messages and he never calls back. When I talked with him a few months ago, it took 7 phone calls at all hours of the day. The church receptionist told me to expect that though - he just never calls ppl back. Very professional, eh? We still have to order the rehearsal dinner cake, but we're still deciding what to have written on it, if anything. Opinions?

Jay starts his new job training next Tuesday....things will change a lot for us in the next three weeks. His training is from 6a-6p for Tues/Wed/Thurs, then half-day Friday, and the week after that the same on Mon/Tues/Wed, half-day Thurs, and off Friday. Then on Monday, the 15th, he starts working 6p-6a. He'll do that schedule every other Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat/Sun and every other Wed/Thurs. It's going to be an odd schedule for us both but we've definitely seen the Lord working in our lives with this job opening. By the time he starts working for them, his unemployment will have $100 left in it...........a God thing? Yes, I definitely think so. On his working nights, I will have plenty of time to get the last wedding things done off my to-do list, and will be looking for any babysitting jobs as well. So if you know of anyone looking for a babysitting, have them call me.

Guess that's about it for now.

August 26, 2008

So tomorrow I'm starting what's called the Seven Day Diet. It's used in a lot of hospitals where heart patients have to lose weight quickly before a surgery (no i'm not having any kind of surgery). It's made up via the Sacred Heart Diet. If you're interested in the actual diet itself, look it up - it's pretty cool! I dont know how long it's guaranteed to work, but my main goal right now is getting into that dress in a few weeks, so......I can do anything for a short amount of time. One of the local dj's on radio station here is doing it for her wedding in September, and has gotten several others in the station to do it as well, and all reported losses of at least 12-15lbs the first week. I've done plenty of diets and I know the first week is the biggest loss, so if you're thinking about preaching at me for that -- don't. I want to do this for myself and see how it works for me. So tomorrow I'm starting it, or maybe Thursday since I have so much to do tomorrow out-and-about and may not be able to bring along the right foods I need.

Anyway, 38 days to go and counting. I will mail the rest of my shower thank-yous tomorrow and that will be finished. We are having our last pre-marital counseling session with my uncle at 9:30 and my dress fitting is at 11:00, then its downtown to get our marriage license, to the bank to add Jay's name to my checking account since its the bank we'll be using, then to BB&B to return some duplicates, then if I have time - Verizon to see if they will let me get my new phone a few days early. Then if there's time after that -- getting my nails filled in....though I'm contemplating just having them taken off and getting new ones b/c they pretty much look like crap right now and are starting to peel off themselves and they're way too long and....I'm not a big fan of nail tips but Jay really liked the way they looked and wanted me to keep them up, so I will....for awhile.

I think the day we get back from our honeymoon we're both going to get haircuts. He hates his the way it is and I hate mine the way it is, yet we both love the others' the way it is. Ironic, huh? He wants to shave his head again (sigh) but I think he's going to just cut it super short and not shave it totally b/c I really hate it like that. We compromised -- he's doing his a little his way and a little my way, and I'm doing mine a little his way and a little my way. I'm having mine chopped off (cue the Hallelujah Chorus!!!) at my neck and layered a little. I laugh every time he sees a hairstyle he thinks would suit "my taste" b/c every time, it gets a little longer and a little longer, and the whole point of my wanting a haircut is to get it off my shoulders. I hate long hair (on me). It just never looks right and I cant leave it down b/c it gets trashy and tangly and I have to use conditioner which makes my hair more oily than it already is.....I hate long hair and I cant wait to have it chopped off.

Work has been good this week - I cant wait for my day off tomorrow even though it will not be at all relaxing. I only have 3.5 weeks until my mini-vacation while they are traveling and I will be plenty busy then.

Sooo.....

-38 days til the wedding
-17 days of work until mini-vacation
-32 days until girls' party!!!

Aug 25, 2008

I had my second shower yesterday.....it was so great! So many friends came and we all had such a good time catching up. There was in particular I was looking for though and she didnt come......and to be honest, I'm really disappointed that she didn't. I dont know why she didnt come, but it did hurt a little that she didnt. Maybe I'll hear from her this week about why, and maybe I wont. But aside from that, I had a GREAT time and everyone was so generous. The majority of the things from our registry are taken.....just a few left and I dont have anything else to add to it - we dont need any other materialistic things for the house. Poor Jay......all this "girly" stuff.

We're down to the 30s now....39 days. It seems like it will never get here....I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas to arrive....it seems like it just gets longer and longer every day. I'm looking forward to my day off on Wednesday and getting some much-needed errands done.

Guess I better get back to writing thank-you notes.

August 20, 2008

I am so glad school has started back. Though the last two and a half weeks weren't nearly as bad as I thought they were going to be, I'm still glad it's over. I wont have to deal with that again until....Christmas...I guess. A day here and there, but I can handle that. =)

I'm looking forward to my day off next week....I have my 2nd dress fitting and.....those always make me nervous for fear it's not going to fit. I've been going to the gym (not as often as I should...) and i HATE the gym. Guess we'll see how it goes.

I got the bridesmaid luncheon planned out over the weekend...am looking forward to that. I received my first phone RSVP yesterday (thank you!!!) and that makes a grand total of 4 RSVPS that ppl have voluntarily given. All the others I've had to ask about or drag out of ppl and it's getting really frustrating. Ppl are either going to wait until the last minute or not RSVP at all. I had a dream last night (Michael -- you'll appreciate this lol) that I had 16 & 7 guarding the doors to the reception hall with a list of names of ppl who had RSVP'd, and if the name wasn't on the list, they were kicked out. lol I'm so afraid that's what it's going to come down to.....with a list as large as ours has turned out to be, we're going to HAVE to have a fairly accurate number.....I can't stress that enough, especially when we have so few RSVP's. There are a lot of ppl I "assume" are coming but it sure would be nice to know for sure.

My shower is on Sunday!! I'm excited for it and excited to have it over with at the same time. That just means the day is drawing nearer......so slowly.

Jay goes in today for his orientation stuff.....he's looking forward to it and looking foward to starting. I really hope he likes this job. He gets so burnt out so quickly with things.....hence the kitchen/bathroom floors are still half-finished a year later... It will be nice to get on with our normal budget again and get some things paid off. I worked on our budget yesterday and factored in the new job and all --- hopefully within 16-18 months, we will be debt-free except the house! Hopefully that will let us move out of Greer within 2 years or so....then, Lord-willing, it will be baby-makin' time!! lol

Meeting Mom for lunch today, gotta go. =)

August 18, 2008

So most of you know Jay's company (crappiest place on earth - dont go there or order from the - YoderStone!) laid off everyone with two hours notice about 4 months ago and he has been drawing unemployment since then. My uncle has been able to help him get a job at Cryovac in Ft Inn, a job with great opportunity for advancement. He goes in for all the testing, touring, etc stuff this Wednesday and starts the training next Monday. Two weeks of training....then he will be working 6p-6a...ugh. Twelve hr shifts, three days on...Im not sure how many days off. Two or three probably. The third shift thing is going to be really hard for both of us - I literally will not see him for three straight days and then his days off I wont see him for more than 2-3 hours before I have to drive home. It will be a little better once we're married - at least I wont have to leave later. =) It's a GREAT job with really great potential to move up in the world, if we can just get it all figured out with how we're gonna see each other.

We joined Calvary Baptist last night - we've been going there since May. No more Southside, and I cant say that I miss it at all, and neither does Jay. He liked it more than I did - I guess I just got tired of it after so many years. It's really hard to be 1 or 2 people in a crowd of 3000 and still feel so alone. We didn't feel integrated at all, even though we were in various small groups over the years. And though we've been gone for months, it has yet to be noticed, and I find that so sad. A church wants to grow and minister to ppl, but you cannot do that when so many of your ppl are overlooked so easily. And that's very easily done in a church so large. We found Calvary and have not looked back once. We love it there - it's approximately 300 ppl and perfect for us. We missed Sunday school one morning and received four phone calls before the day was even over to say we were missed. How wonderful!

Sidebar - I'm watching an episode of Trading Spouses and never in my life have I seen such a psycho woman......the episode with the new age family and the "Christian" family with the really large mom.....to say she's a drama queen is not even close.

Anyhoo back to Calvary - we love the pastor there and he knows us by name (and did after just 2 weeks!!) He's been teasing us for weeks about joining already. We originally wanted to wait until after we were married, so we could join as one name instead of two, but there are going to be a lot of changes coming to Calvary starting in September and the Sunday nights were going to be as full as Sunday mornings, and that was what was holding us back - having to go up there in front of so many ppl. So we bit the bullet last night and did it - and he was so excited we were there lol. He made jokes and talked about us like he's known us for years and that was really nice and made us feel so welcome there. I was able to join by letter since I was a member of Southside already, but since Jay was not, he has to join by baptism and he was not really thrilled about that (b/c of having to do that in front of so many ppl). He's been saved since he was young but had never been baptized. He wants to, it's just hard when you're not a ppl person to show yourself in front of so many ppl like that. So....he's going to do that when they have their next baptism. =)

So 46 days to go......I mailed the last of the invitations today; our Sunday school class and the pastor's family and ones that had been returned bc I cant write addresses correctly for some reason. Mom and I went through all the pictures in the frames yesterday and wrote down what I'm missing and need to order...I'm glad that's done. A small yet vital detail. All of the programs are finished, tied, and placed in their basket. All the gifts are finished and wrapped. I still need to get the picture slideshow on dvd (anybody that can help with that? It's too large a file to email so I dont really know how to go about it...) to send to our sound tech. We're still waiting on 2/3 of the rsvp's to come in.......frustrating to say the least. Ppl I thought would have been on top of that still havent let us know. There is still a month left before the deadline was up but it would really be nice to not have to call a million ppl who havent responded. Guess we'll see.

Days til my shower...5
Days til my week off....32
Days of work til my week off...23
Days til the wedding.....46

On a last note - if anyone knows how to find your master volume button/section on the computer, please pass along the knowledge. I really want to listen to my new song on MySpace but I cant find the volume option that is always on the laptop....bummer.

August 14, 2008

I had a realization this morning.....as much as i've said in my past few blogs about the time dragging until the wedding, the summer truly has FLOWN by! It feels like just days ago I was "starting" the planning (ok, we all know i've been planning since i was 5, but still....) and dreading the kiddo being out of school for a couple weeks....then his summer program started and flew by....I had one bridal shower....the family went to the beach and I had a whole week off.....I'm having another shower in a week or so....I've had my first dress fitting.....the invites have gone out.....some rsvp's have come in.....the summer truly is FLYING by! All summer I have been dreading Aug 4, when the kiddo would be out of school for over 2 weeks and we have nothing to do....but truth be told, I only have 2 more days with him before school starts back (amen!) and it's gone so much quicker than i thought it would. Not without some drama, of course, for what would any job be w/o drama??

Jay has job leads.....praise the Lord. He put in two apps yesterday for two really good jobs - one in Fountain Inn, one in Wellford. The one is Ft Inn is pretty much a sure thing b/c half my family works there lol. It would be a great job - benefits, good money.....the hours would stink though b/c the shifts would be third or second or swing. Not the ideal way we wanted to start off married life but it's better than being broke and homeless. =) He's kinda excited about it so I'm glad. He doesnt get too excited about too many things.

So many countdowns I have (gives me something to look forward to!):
days til the shower - 9
days til my day off - 12
days til my week off - 36
days til the wedding - 50

=)

August 13, 2008

51 days to go and it is really dragging. everything major is done and i'm bored....nothing to do. we decided to invite our new sunday school class so i got more envelopes addressed and they will be sent out tomorrow. the waiting game SUCKS. i cant wait for a vacation away and I cant wait to start our married life and not have to drive to piedmont (no longer "home" for me) every single night. i feel like i cant ever fully relax when i get home after work, b/c i know in just 2-3 hrs i have to leave. it's been a long road of doing that and i will really be so glad when i dont have to do that anymore.

on another note - i did find out yesterday and i *should* be getting a week off at the end of september!! the family i nanny for is taking a trip to michigan and i get time off from sept 22-26. i'll gladly take it! i'm sure there will be more things I'll need to get done by then but for now, i'm just glad to know i have something new to look forward to.

i have my second shower in about a week and a half - i'm looking forward to that! and on sept 3, i get to go to verizon for my new phone. kudos to this phone which has gotten me through about 4 yrs on/off. i think i know just which one i want but we'll have to see how expensive it is after my rebate and all.

i asked for a day off on the 27th...i have a dress fitting and our last premarital counseling meeting with my uncle that morning and its a lot to pack in with a 7 mo old and the fact that i have to pick up the kiddo by 12:30 still, so i just asked for it off.

ppl are not rsvp'ing like i thought they would. we've gotten...maybe...5 emails? some ppl have said (before we sent out invites) that they would be coming but i still need to know FOR SURE so we can have somewhere near the correct amount of food for the reeption. so you, yes YOU - if you receieved an invitation and have not replied yet, PLEASE do so asap!! Even if you cant come, we still need to know. Tell everyone else you see that received an invite....RSVP!!

i think all the groomsmen/bridesmaid stuff is done. as far as i know, all measurements are in for the groomsmen and 3 out of 4 bridesmaids have scheduled alterations for dresses if they needed them. jay has told me a million times not to let myself stress over that.....i'm trying not to but the OCD part of me wants it to be done (scheduled, that is). It takes time to have it done, you know. =)

I do know that all of our gift-shopping for our wedding party is D-U-N! I had way more fun that Jay did on this one - he got all his pretty much the same thing, but I shopped for days for mine - everybody's is different and suits them personally.....I think. =) I got the rehearal dinner ordered today and it scheduled to be delivered around 6pm on the 3rd, so we should be able to eat by 7pm or so. Rehearsal starts at 6pm at the church so the quicker we get it all done, the quicker we can eat!

August 4, 2008

I had a taste of freedom last week....something I havent enjoyed in months since I was at 1st Pres and we hardly worked....I mean, worked hard.... I have been dreading this morning for days. Vacation is wonderful and horrible all at once....it's nice to be free to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, to sleep in, to laze around, to meet Jay for lunch at any minute and not be tied down........but at the same time it sucks coming back in to a house where I feel so TRAPPED all the time. But I have to be honest, so far this morning has been nice. Maybe we'll go to the park.....I'm trying to save Monkey Joes for days where I'm going insane, which I'm sure will be sooner rather than later.

Invites got mailed last week...a few came back b/c I wrote the wrong zip, but I'll get those out tomorrow morning. My biggest request ----- PLEASE rsvp, whether you're coming or not. It's so important that we get a fairly accurate headcount. Our invite list is so out of control that we need some kind of number to buy food for.....long gone is the day where we (read: Jay and I) wanted to have just a small amount of family/friends invited.....other lists were added and it kept coming down to "well, we cant invite so-and-so and not invite so-and-so...." so our number is huge and we're learning to deal with it. It's not always what you want it to be, but at this point neither of us cares anymore - we just want to get married and have it DONE. We're both looking forward to it, but I know I for one will not be sad to not have to deal with the details any more. It will be nice to get on with normal life again.

July 31, 2008

Today has not started off well. I have so much to do to get the house ready for Jay's grandparents, and it's been one catastrophe after another. Last night the washing machine flooded (again) and now the kitchen floor is pretty much completely ruined. About 75% of the floor is buckled up and ruined. While I was cleaning out cabinets this morning, a cabinet collapsed and broke..........this house is such a pain and I want out of here so badly. Our goal was originally to fix it up as much as possible and get it on the market by January or so, but now we're thinking of just putting it on the market "as is" and let somebody else deal with it. Depends on what kind of house we can find in the area we're looking for, though.

Super frustrated today. I'm leaving to meet Jay for lunch now and I'm looking forward to that. No matter how mad/frustrated I get, he always makes me smile. =)

July 30, 2008

Wow, this week has gone by WAY too fast. I've enjoyed having some time to myself, some time with Jay, some time to work on things around the house and get some things organized. But it has gone SO fast and I hate that, because after this week, I have no time for "vacation" until the honeymoon. I will have the kiddo 10 straight hours for 12 straight weekdays until Greenville County schools go back. This week is the calm before the storm.

I've been thinking about going back to school - not big university school, but cheap-o school like ECPI or something, where I can get a BS in 2 years. It might not be my dream job, but it would be something I could do from home once we have kids, which is what I would really like most - to be at home, work from home, etc. I dont know....I'm still thinking about it and we're talking about it. We're also talking about not waiting 4-5 years for kids, maybe just 2 or so, but in order for that to happen, we have to have the income to support my staying home, and depending on what kind of job he gets in the coming months will determine that. He is applying at Cryovac where half my family works (lol) and, while it's probable he can get on there, the shifts SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. It will be 2nd or 3rd shift and it usually rotates. Which means we will probably not see other more than an hour unless it's his days off. I dont know how I feel about that, especially starting off a marriage like that, but....I'm also trying to think about how it's for the better good of our future family to save as much money as possible. So we'll see.

Going to get my nails done today......he wants me to start taking time for myself b/c all I do is work and getting wedding stuff done, but it's hard for me to spend money I know we need to save for other things. But I'm going to go ahead and do this b/c he wants me to so badly. After that, I'm having lunch with Katy and spending the afternoon at the pool (here's hoping it doesnt rain.....). Tomorrow Jay's grandparents will be here to take us to dinner and then breakfast the following morning before they head back to Sarasota, so that will be nice.

I hate that I'm up so early this morning when I have the opportunity to sleep....but I can't sleep for some reason.

July 29, 2008

So far......pure enjoyment. Yesterday I mailed the invitations (YAY!!!) and started painting the kitchen cabinets (white). Today I hope to finish painting (though you can see I'm hard at work here lol). Jay's grandparents are coming sometime this week, hopefully not until Friday, and I want to have it ifnished by then. Also have to clean the house and do some laundry, but I love doing stuff like that (really).

I'm loving having some time to myself. It's really nice to be free for a few days to do whatever I want and spend more than 2 hrs at a time with my sweetheart.

On another note -- when you guys get your invitations, PLEASE rsvp one way or another. We have to have some sort of accurate headcount for the reception.

July 23, 2008

so i feel like i'm slowly getting things done, after a couple weeks of not doing anything wedding-related b/c i was getting burnt out. i fully understand why ppl elope and at times i wish we had done that. then we wouldnt have to be waiting for a lot of things. ::wink::

we turned the house upside down looking for jay's social security card and his original birth certificate.....couldnt find either one. so today after our premarital counseling meeting, he went to the social security office to get a replacement card. it gets here in 10 days and then we can go get our marriage license. yay!

we spent the better half of last night getting new things put away. i'm looking forward to going through cabinets next week and getting things cleaned up and organized a little better. also hope to get the guestbook finished once and for all. i'm redoing the whole thing and scrapping my original idea, b/c in the long run its going to be impractical.

tomorrow night we're going to dinner with our friends the Saucemans (love them!!) and then the guys are gonna shoot arrows for practice in the yard, or maybe that's vice versa, I'm not sure. Im looking forward to it either way though, b/c I love hanging out with them. We dont really have any married friends and it's usually weird being the only couple in groups anymore, hence we dont go to SF's small group anymore.

72 days to go.........I'm getting so ready to have this wedding done, though I know I will enjoy the day and be sad when its over.....I just want to be married already. I finally got the sound/video tech guy to call me back and got him scheduled for the rehearsal and wedding. He's going to do our picture slideshow and sound.

Two more days until my 9 day vacation....

July 21, 2008

I had my first shower yesterday and it was so much fun!! Thanks so much to Grace and Jessica for planning it!!!! Grace - you did SOOOO much to make that day go so well and I'm so grateful! Everyone seemed to have a good time. We had a full truckload of stuff (as Jay says) to take back to the house and unload into its new place. I debated for awhile whether or not to keep it boxed until we get married or go ahead and start using some of it, and he wants to use it, so we are. Some things didn't have the choice - like the silverware his mom got us. We're down to 3 spoons in our house lol, so the new silverware has to be cracked out and used. So I think while I'm off next week, I'm going through cabinets and drawers and getting rid of a lot of stuff we dont need or regularly use (before he comes home and realizes what I'm doing lol....he HATES throwing stuff away, even rusted kitchen spatulas that arent usable).

Which brings me to my next point.........I have a WHOLE WEEK OFF next week!!!!!! I can't wait! I need time to myself and the thought of having to wait until October for it....well, sucks. But the family I nanny for is going to the beach for a week. I'm going to sleep, clean out cabinets, sleep, organize the kitchen, sleep, possibly paint the cabinets, sleep, relax while watching old movies that I love, spend more than 2 hours at a time with my love, oh, and sleep. And maybe working a day or two at First Pres if needed, for extra income. I miss the days of only working 9-2......I realize now how incredibly simple and easy that job was, or at least the time frame. It was nothing compared to the 10+ hours a day I spend here. I'd go back if I could afford to, but alas, we are broke and I cannot.

So four more days until I am free for a whole week!!!!!!!!!!!

July 15, 2008

The baby got me sick. Well, I take that back....the GRANDMA got me sick. She came down from wherever-it-is-she-is-from, complete with luggage and a cold, gave the cold to the baby, and the baby gave the cold to me. So thoughtful.

So now I have an important night ahead me and all I want to do is crawl in bed and stay there until the weekend. I have a fever, which I NEVER get with a cold, my body feels like it's been run over by a truck, my muscles ache. And I'm taking a sick day tomorrow. End of story. Not my problem that they dont have a backup sitter/nanny/housekeeper/doer-of-things-they-
dont-want-to-do.

Looking forward to tonight!!!!! Well, sorta.

Got my dress fitted today at David's Bridal. I was so excited (before going in) that my diet pills and this stupid Weight Watchers diet was working!!!! Not so much. Though I've lost inches, they haven't been where I needed them to be, therefore the dress must come out two inches. Grrr. Didn't cost nearly as much as I thought it might, though.

One less thing to do.

July 7, 2008

What a great long weekend! It had been such a loooooooooong two weeks before; I was really looking forward to having a 3 day weekend. Thursday night we went to El Jalisco and.....one big margarita later, I giggled the whole way home and long into the night, lol. I didn't even drink the whole thing - we shared it, but apparantly I "sucked it down" (his words) and it caught up to me quickly. Things are infinitely hilarious on the bright side of a margarita, lol.

I brought both Baylee & Gavin with me to Jay's on Friday, to "acclimate" them a little more to their soon-to-be new home. Friday did NOT go as planned. As I was preparing to leave, Mom noticed the tires on my car were down to the steel on the inside; apparantly my alignment has been WAY off for a long time. Soooooo......the only place open on the 4th of July cost me almost $300 for two tires. Jay came all the way from Greer to take the car bc he didnt want me to drive it like that. We took it to get the tires changed; ate lunch; then took both cars and both dogs back to Greer. Friday night we went to a small group party for dinner/fireworks. It was fun but long. Fireworks are nice, but 2 straight hours of being bitten by mosquitos gets old fast.

Saturday we went to get the alignment fixed, then shopping (yikes) for "dress shirts" for Jay to take on the honeymoon, since the majority of his clothing consists of concrete dust-covered tshirts and holey jeans. =) Saturday night we went to my cousins house for grilling out, swimming, fireworks, Smirnoffs (me, lol, since i hate beer). I was EXHAUSTED but it was still fun.

Sunday we went to Sunday school, church, a church picnic with my parents, aunt/uncle, and then back home for a nap and chilling out.

Makes me long for the weekend. Though today has been a good day, this job still wears me out.

June 28, 2008

Here's a couple of movies NOT to see, lol. This weekend, Jay and I rented "10,000 B.C." and "Juno." He's been wanting to see the first one since he saw the previews for it months ago.........weirdest movie I ever saw. It was very hard to follow and really dragged out. He referred to it as a "sci-fi fiction" or something like that, but he really liked it. I didnt care for it too much.

Juno......I had such high hopes for this one! The ads all said it was hilarious, and though it had its funny moments, it was really more like Napoleon Dynamite, which I hated. It was kind of pointless and had a very unsatisfactory ending (for me). Jay didn't like it (said it was too much like a chic-flic for his macho personality........lol).

So anyhoo, there's a couple movie reviews for you.....in case you're interested. On another note, we finally got our honeymoon BOOKED!! YAY!!! Big load off my mind. We knew we wanted to go to Jackson Hole (okay, HE knew, but it was still growing on me......) but his parents' timeshare was already booked and we weren't expecting that. So after a week of looking at different resorts and all, we found one we both liked that was actually open that week. We got our flights booked, our week's lodging booked, rental car reserved, and the hotel in Atlanta booked....since we're driving there after the reception and not flying out til Sunday afternoon. My sweet friend Ashley offered us a room at their house that night, since they live about an hr from the airport in Atl, and I actually laughed at her until I realized she was serious and told her I was sure she didn't want to undertake that nor did her husband, lol. He thought that was funny and she really didn't get it at first, but when he explained it to her then she was just embarassed, lol.

Anyhoo, big stuff is all done and I'm SO glad. Just 95 days to go and very few things left to finish.....the rest will just be things that can't be done until the day before or day of anyway.

June 25, 2008

Okay, lately when I've been praying for a job opening for Jay even if it required a move.....I was thinking a local move....like Anderson or something. Nothing like what opened up last night. It's really overwhelming to even consider right now with everything else going on. I keep telling myself I'm not even going to worry or think about it until after Jay meets with Gregg next week to talk about it.....if they aren't willing to wait until mid-October fo rus, then it can't happen anyway, so no use getting all stressed over something that might not even happen. It would be an AWESOME job - great money, amazing benefits, enough to keep us afloat if I stayed home with future kids.....just a lot further away than either of us ever thought about going.

On another note, we were both so excited about going to Jackson Hole for our honeymoon, and of all weekends his parents' resort was booked.....had to be ours. So after a lot of consideration and online searching other places, we're still going to go to Jackson Hole; we'll just be using ALL the money our parents are giving us to get there....and then some. Not what we wanted to do but if we want to go to JH, then that's the way it has to be. It will be so much fun - I cant wait!!

101 days....

June 10, 2008

I really need a day off to just veg and relax. I love this job (for the most part) but it's a long day sometimes and the lack of sleep is getting to me. Getting home at 11 or after each night, getting up at 6 and going going going all day....I need a vacation. Just a few more weeks and the family I nanny for is going to the beach for a whole week and I get that whole week off. (If you know of anyone needing babysitting that week [July 26-Aug 2] I could use a couple days' extra money). I'm trying not to be stressed about all I have to do, and so far I'm not, but my list is piling up by the day and finding time to have meetings with ppl while I'm nannying is not easy. But I'm still enjoying the job and its a good one for me.

Just venting, I guess. Really tired and lots to do.....

June 3, 2008

So I wanted Mt. Airy but was told there was already something on the calendar for October 4th.......bless my mom, she asked them to change it and they did. So we got Mt. Airy for our wedding!!! We were going to have to use Calvary, which I wasn't necessarily against - I like it really well - but I think its really stupid that a church requires you to join just to use their church. I could get off on a big soapbox speech about that but I wont right now.

Anyway, the church is secured - rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. I'm very excited and this was the last BIG piece of the puzzle to get finished. I dont remember if I put in the last post that we had ordered the wedding cake and groom's cake, but in case I didn't...........we ordered the wedding cake and groom's cake last week. Some lady in my aunt's church is going to do them; she's made wedding cakes for years and has literally hundreds of pictures of her cakes. She does great work.........weirdest woman I've ever met and one of the messiest houses I've ever seen (minus the one I work in, lol) but beautiful cakes. We ordered a 14/10/6 inch double-layered cake with raspberry filling (Jay's choice), pure white in color with black satin ribboning around the bottom of all 3 tiers. It's hard to describe, but it will perfectly match the red/black color scheme, b/c there will be red gerbers on the 2nd tier under the column and on the top tier.

Jay's grooms cake..........well, that's a surprise and I can't tell you. He picked it all out himself and may I say it is most definitely Jay Miller design. =) I like the cake and hate the filling choice on that one, so I wont be eating it. Ugh. Really cool design though.

Cant wait! 122 days to go...........

May 27, 2008

So Mom and I got a LOT done yesterday, and Lori and Jessica and I got a bit done on Saturday. 3 out of 4 bridesmaids dresses are ordered (yay!) Yesterday, Mom and I went to Belk and found a strapless bra (cant tell you how much fun it is looking for those.....ugh), then went to David's Bridal and did a fitting with the dress. I was SO RELIEVED at the estimate they gave us to shorten the straps and the couple of other minor adjustments that need to be made.....I cant tell you what a huge load that takes off of me for now, knowing it can be taken care of for way under the price I thought it would take. Then we met Jay for lunch and went to about 14 different Dollar Trees looking for more of the same picture frames. We have 17 so far....we need 48 total, lol....and NOBODY has these, not even the warehouse. So it's looking like I'm going to have to do mix/match tables and I really didn't want to. Jay found some picture cubes he liked a lot but I dont know how probable they are for reception tables b/c they're little and it would take a few for each table, plus the picture size is awkward, but I'll figure it out somehow.

Then we went to Michael's (store lol) and got some scrapbook post extensions to fit all the pages in the scrapbook we're using as our guestbook. Then we went to Sam's and priced the reception food (ouch) then to Walmart to find some ribbon for the programs, and attempted to find the perfect shoes.....but no luck on those yet.

That's it for now, more to come later. =)

May 20, 2008

And here I thought I was really on top of it all, getting little things done here and there over the last few weeks....turns out I have TONS of stuff still to do, but it's all so exciting! I have approximately 80 scrapbook pages still to make/finish for the guestbook, gotta find a darn strapless bra that will be hidden under that dress (so far a practically impossible task), gotta attempt to get the music timed right with the timing of the processional (gonna take more than just me to get that part done), gotta start scanning about 80-100 pictures and get them into a slideshow AND find a fitting song to play while the pictures play (okay, i HAD the perfect song but he hated it so.....back to the drawing board there....suggestions very welcome at this point). I still have to get about 15 8x10 photos framed for the tables at the reception, get placecards made for the rehearsal dinner, go to Kinko's (who named that place anyway?) and finish printing the invitations and the 4 million announcements for afterward, get the envelopes stuffed, print the directions to the church, make the programs, pick out the pictures he wants when his parents bring them up in a couple weeks, get bridesmaids' dresses purchased (i'm not doing that, but i'll feel a lot better when its all done)...

Meanwhile, things i DO actually have done....all the invitations and announcements envelopes are addressed and stamped, the save-the-date cards have been sent to those who are receiving them (out-of-state-family/friends), the templates for the invitations/announcements/programs are done, just not printed, flowers are ordered, my half of the pictures are chosen, food for rehearsal dinner has been chosen, reception food has been chosen, all wedding party has been "asked" and all jobs delegated...

Whew....it's a lot of work, but it's all been fun so far. Got a lot to do and gonna need some help getting some of it done, too. Staying on budget hasn't been too hard yet, but there are still some big things upcoming before I can guarantee that.

My current stress is that I hope ppl who do not receive invitations will not be upset.....I wish we had the money to invite everyone we wanted, but we don't. So I hope they all understand, and if not, oh well.

to my single friends - a great article!

Will I Be Single and Alone Forever?

Did you know that you weren't created to live this life by yourself? God didn't intend for you to be alone. He intended for you to find love with another person. That person would be your opposite, yet the two of you would fit together like pieces in a puzzle. Physically, Spiritually and Emotionally.

From the Beginning

From the very beginning, God has shown us that we desperately need intimacy with another human. In the first book of the Bible, Genesis, God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18). The Hebrew word translated into English as "alone" means "piece or part of something." The first man (Adam) was only a part or piece of the whole. He was made to be a part of something that did not yet exist in totality. Only when God made the woman was the process finished.

Verse 18 of Genesis 2 uses the phrase "helper suitable" (New International Version). In the original Hebrew, that phrase means "someone to correspond to or match the other." That's why Adam felt so alone before Eve: His corresponding or matching part didn't exist yet. God made Eve to complete Adam. And of course, Adam, in turn, completed Eve. Humankind requires two parts to make the whole: a man and a woman. By the design of God, each needs the other.

As soon as Eve came into existence, Adam knew that she completed him. She was his ideal and perfect match, his corresponding being. The two of them together would make one. That's why the text says, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24 and Mark 10:8).

God created us with this need for intimacy with a mate. We've craved it from the beginning of the world. And He created this union to be the closest relationship on earth--even closer than our relationship with the father and mother who gave us life and sustenance. And since God made humankind with this strong need for intimacy with a mate, this need exists for all people who have lived or ever will live on this planet--except for specific individuals whom God has intentionally gifted for singleness.

Choosing to Wait

If you're seeking love and romance, it's fairly certain you haven't been gifted for single life. Yet many singles today are pressured to put off marriage until they graduate college, land a great job, get older, etc. Most begin hearing it sometime after age twelve. Though parents and others have good intentions by offering that advice, those are actually very shallow reasons for sweeping your craving for intimacy under the rug.

Using the "wait-until-you-have-it-all-together" reasoning causes many to "burn with passion." Why? Because they are putting off what is natural not only to their bodies but to their minds and emotions. The "burning" leads many to give in to their need for sexual intimacy before marriage because they can't stand to continue to deny the desire put in them by God. Perhaps denying their God-given need for intimacy is why current statistical research says 1 in 2 singles will have sex outside of marriage.

1 Corinthians 7:9 tells us: "...it is better to marry than to burn with passion."

In Bible times men and women often married between the ages of thirteen and eighteen. Am I saying someone should marry at age thirteen? No. What I am saying is that I think some parents and church leaders have thrown the baby out with the bath water. In their efforts to fight divorce (or in some cases, keep their children home with them longer) they've discouraged marriage. While not necessarily meaning to, they've presented marriage as something that only works out in perfect situations and at perfect times instead of presenting it as a beautiful relationship that requires commitment and patience. Instead, they've often presented marriage as something to be afraid of or to delay. This should not be the picture painted to singles at all!

I'm not saying for you to go out and marry anyone blessed with counterpart genitals. Neither am I saying two 15-year-olds should elope (they are probably too young). But I am saying that, assuming you are of the age of consent, delaying marriage until life gets "perfect" is the wrong thing to do. For many reasons.

First, by thinking you need to wait to get married until you're making more money might sound responsible and mature, but what is that really saying? Though we may not want to admit it, it's saying, "You can't have a happy marriage without money."

I'll be the first to tell you that you can't "live on love" and people have struggled to make ends meet while married. So I'm not saying you should marry while one of you earns minimum wage and the other stays home. But don't think you have to be able to afford a two-car, two-story brick house before you can marry the love of your life.

Secondly, there will never be a perfect situation. Your life will always have bumps and curves. When someone lovingly tells you to wait until your situation magically improves, they unknowingly are saying you can't have a happy marriage until the situation is perfect. And let me assure you, nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone will endure situational difficulty. That's a four-letter word I like to refer to as L-I-F-E.

Finally, by delaying marriage you could be putting yourself in a difficult situation. God put within us an extremely strong desire for intimacy. "It is not good for man to be alone," God said when he saw man by himself in the garden of Eden. The Hebrew phrase "not good" could be better stated as saying, "No good can come of it." Sure there are those gifted for living the single life. If you think that's you, good for you, I'm not talking to you. But odds are there are those reading these words who struggle with sexual purity. You fight against what God put in you and that's why you keep falling. If that's you, do this: Begin planning for marriage. If you're dating someone you love and have been having sex with them, tell them you think the two of you should get married. You'll find out right away if they love you or only wanted sex from you. Then when you're married you can totally satisfy this normal and natural need.

So if you are dating the love of your life, forget the whole idea of putting off marriage until you are living in a gated neighborhood and ready for anything that comes your way. If you are in love with someone and committed to them, marry them. That's what is supposed to happen! That's why God put the desire for companionship and physical intimacy inside of you. I'll happily give singles a breath of fresh air by encouraging, rather than discouraging marriage.

This applies to those of you who don't yet have a lavish job or even a college degree. If you are an adult who feels you can't wait any longer to have sex with the person you love, do something about it--do the right thing. If you are in love with them, marry them rather than commit fornication. If it is simply infatuation, break off the relationship so you don't sin.

Does it sound extreme? Maybe. But "it's better to marry than to burn with passion" according to the Bible. And it is your life, right?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wow. I saw that somewhere online today and thought it was really good. I know (KNOW) how hard it is to be still single in your 20s. Up until a couple of years ago, I thought I was just plain unlikeable and that I would never be able to find my soulmate in the millions and billions of people in this world. And wow, how all that can change in a day. In a week. That was all it took for me to have the kick in the butt that said, "He's yours and I have made you for each other." To go from one extreme to the other in a matter of days is overwhelming, but also the most encouraging thing that's ever happened to me. I took for granted what the meaning of a soulmate really was. How two people can so equally balance each other, compliment each other's personalities, still have common interests and equal differences.....there is no other way to say it other than it's God's hand in all of it. I found the one and he found me, and now I look back on the times (and YEARS) I spent stressing out about never finding love, and here it is. It took patience (that I realize now I didnt really have, lol) and faith that God was and is truly in control. And to know now that Jay intended NEVER to get married or even date again b/c of past experiences and friends' marriages gone bad.....it used to make me cry to hear him say he gave up on finding his true love. But he'll also tell you that he could feel Christ constantly chiseling away at his heart and he knew we were meant to be together, even as much as he fought it for the first couple of months we were just friends. He knew. I knew.

So I guess I'm writing this to say - to the people I'm thinking about as I'm writing this.....please dont ever give up faith in God that there IS someone who is meant just for you. I know how hard it is to see couples out in public, in the grocery store, in amusement parks, in church.....to see what they have and to want it SO DESPERATELY. I know. But I wouldn't change anything in my past if I knew my outcome would be different. All the waiting made what I have today worth it, 100 times over. It was hard and it was challenging and I cried a lot over feeling rejected and ignored, but it was still all worth it to have the amazing relationship we have now. You never know what may come of a friendship, so dont give up if you really feel you're being called toward it. And even if you dont, still dont ever give up. God is in complete control of your life and He knows what's best for you. Love is around the corner, even if the walkway is longer than you thought it would be.

It's worth it. =)

Things I've learned over the years

In no particular order:

I've learned - that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

I've learned - that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.

I've learned - that it's not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned - that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I've learned - that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned - that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned - that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I've learned - that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned - that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I've learned - that writing, as well as talking, can ease emotional pain. =)
